by K. A. Pirnat

How did Christopher Columbus find the courage, never mind the money, supplies, ships, and men, to undertake the great voyage that resulted in the discovery of America?

In 1492: The Real Story of Christopher Columbus and His Search for the New World, K.A. Pirnat presents a tongue-in-cheek glimpse of Christopher’s life and the events, obstacles, challenges, and surprises leading up to his historical journey and momentous discovery.

Did Christopher really approach Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand by himself…or perhaps did his cousin secure the audience with the royal couple and persuade them to back Christopher’s determination to prove his crazy theory that the world was not flat, as commonly thought, but round like a ball? And did the crews for his ships volunteer, or were they, perhaps, common criminals who thought the risk of sailing off the edge of the earth beat wasting away in prison?

No matter how he poses it, K.A. Pirnat’s admiration for Christopher Columbus as a man determined to take his place in history shines through in this humorous and refreshing peek into the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Old World Style Satire, June 15, 2004 By AP "Closet Atheist" (Santa Fe) - Amazon.com

In his first major publication K.A. Pirnat brings forth a highly stimulating historical satire about Christopher Columbus and his voyage to the new world. 1492 show stylistic influences of satirical cinema such as that of Brooks and Wilder but at the same time Pirnat give us his own individual stylistic graces. This novel takes all the "common knowledge" facts on Columbus' voyage, puts it all into a 21st century perspective in a way that only an abstract intellectual such as Pirnat can do, and proves that anything can be made ridiculous. Pirnat take societies value from the 15th century to the present and turns them upside down. This book reads very well and is continuously stimulating without a single slow page. Rumor has it that in addition to Pirnat's follow up novel about the barbarians, a scripted version of this is on its way towards the big screen. If you want a book that is a laugh a minunte then this isn't the book for you, this book is a laugh straight through, every second of it. Highly recomended!!!
