At the Closing of a Day: The Diary of Sgt. Merle Alan Fisher Company B, 1st Amphibious Tractor Battalion, 1st Marine Division 19421944
Edited by Gary A. Fisher

While serving his country in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, Merle Alan Fisher kept a meticulous account of his days, from his departure from the Norfolk Navy Yard in Virginia to the brutality of D-Day at Peleliu Island. At the Closing of a Day is the resulting document, showing the whole life of the ordinary serviceman, not only the horrors of battle but the pleasures of being on leave in Australia and receiving packages from home. A perfect companion piece to Richard Tregaskiss Guadalcanal Diary, Fishers chronicle is an invaluable piece of history and a resource for anyone wanting to know more about the humble heroes of the Greatest Generation.
