by Lerrlyn Nelson
A Motherís Song is a hands-on, commonsense, practical approach to understanding and managing persons with autism. It was written to provide helpful tips for parents, family members, friends, or those wanting to know more about autism.
This resource tool for managing behaviors should be used as a reference guide for common terms; a guide for predicting behavior; a forecasting tool for what to expect as the child grows older; and a tool to assist in setting expectations, goals, and objectives.
About the Author
Lerrlyn Nelson was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She has dedicated her life and educational goals toward increasing awareness, improving educational and vocational programs, and securing semi-independent living opportunities for persons with autism.
This book is a compilation of methods and techniques developed over twenty-five years while working with persons with a primary diagnosis of autism and their families. Lerrlyn has developed and implemented several programs and has been a driving force assisting and educating parents, family members, educators and governmental agencies in recognizing the needs of this segment of the community. She has written programs that have educated the community, offered skill building services, and afforded families and caregivers the means to access medical resources and emotional services. In addition, she has developed plans to; open a charter school specifically designed to provide educational and vocational services, build a technology highway making it easier to access medical and emotional services, and form a network of providers who offer housing opportunities for persons with autism.
