Threat of Globalization to Arab Islamic Culture
by Professor Mohamed El-Shibiny

Since 9-11-01, misunderstandings and stereotypical judgments between the West and the Arab states have become increasingly evident. This clear, useful book blends economics, politics, and history to provide insights into different perspectives of Western and Arab Cultures regarding globalization, presenting a spectrum of opinions and beliefs on each side, with particular attention to the psychology of Arab decision-makers.

Too many people hold uninformed opinions without understanding the expectations, the fears, and the concerns of the stakeholders. The Threat of Globalization to Arab Islamic Culture will bring about a more defined comprehension of the issues involved with globalization.

The reader will see history in the making. The results are not yet in.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mohamed El-Shibiny is perhaps the definitive authority to explain the West and the Arab world to each other. Dr. El-Shibiny was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, where he lives today with his family. But he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at Ohio State University and then worked for the United Nations for over thirty years in developing countries – African, Asian, and Arab. As the former UNESCO Chief Technical Advisor for East Africa, the Philippines, and Qatar and as Regional Representative for the Arab Gulf States, Dr. El-Shibiny has a thorough knowledge of Third-World requirements and viewpoints. And as Dean of the Faculty of Education and Islamic Studies at Sultan Qaboos University and advisor to the Minister of Higher Education in the Sultanate of Oman, he has invaluable insight into Arab Islamic perspectives.

Dr. El-Shibiny’s earlier books include Foundations of Education (2002) and The Threat of Globalization to Islamic Arabic Culture (2003), both in Arabic.
